Properties:
This product is a yellow or amber clear oily liquid with a special odor and a mild bitter taste. Relative density 1.01, boiling point 321℃, flash point 321℃, refractive index 1.472, viscosity (25℃) 0.25 - 0.40 Pa/s. The molecule contains a large number of hydrophilic groups, which can be miscible with water, ethanol, methanol and ethyl acetate, and is insoluble in liquid paraffin, volatile oil and light petroleum. 1 part of this product can be dissolved in 130 parts of cottonseed oil and 200 parts of toluene, and the 5% aqueous solution has a pH of 5 - 7. HLB value is 16.7.
Main applications: Non-ionic surfactant. Gas chromatography stationary phase. Water-soluble emulsifier. Separation and analysis of volatile oils, fatty acid esters, alcohols, ketones, halides. Source and method of production: This product is obtained by condensation of sorbitol and its dehydrated compounds with lauric acid esters in the presence of alkali per mole of sorbitol and its dehydrated compounds with approximately 20 moles of ethylene oxide. The lauric acid used for esterification may contain other fatty acids.

Properties: Light yellow to amber oily viscous liquid. Relative density (25/4℃) 1.06 - 1.10, refractive index 1.4756. Viscosity 0.4 - 0.7 Pa·s (25℃), flash point 10℃. Soluble in water, soluble in ethanol, vegetable oil, ethyl acetate, methanol, and methylene chloride, insoluble in mineral oil. Forms a gel at low temperatures, reverts after heating. Has a special odor and a slightly bitter taste.
Applications: Used as emulsifier, wetting agent, penetration agent, diffusion agent, etc. Also used as a component of nylon and viscose tire oil. In the production of polyurethane foam plastics, used as an emulsifier. In the food industry, used as an ice cream emulsifier, with a dosage of 0.1% butter, and generally added at about 1% in oil.
Preparation method: Heat and distill sorbitol under reduced pressure, collect the water evaporated at 60 - 85℃ (8.0 kPa) to reach the calculated amount. Cool the mixture and take out the product immediately. Obtain the water-depleted sorbitol. React it with oleic acid to obtain Twain 80. Then, react Twain 80 with ethylene oxide under alkaline catalysis to obtain Twain 80.
