Sodium Salicylate

Sodium salicylate is an organic compound with the chemical formula C7H5O3Na. It appears as white scales or powder and is odorless. When exposed to light for a long time, it turns pink. It is soluble in water and glycerol but insoluble in organic solvents such as ether, chloroform, and benzene. It is flammable when exposed to fire. It is mainly used in painkillers and rheumatism medicines and also in organic synthesis. It can be obtained by neutralizing salicylic acid with an alkali and then crystallizing.
