Carboxymethyl Cellulose (CMC) is a water-soluble cellulose ether obtained by chemical modification of natural cellulose. Due to the poor water solubility of the acidic structure of carboxymethyl cellulose, in order to facilitate its application, its products are generally made into sodium salts, with the molecular formula [C6H7O2(OH)2OCH2COONa]n.

Products Application
It is widely used in petroleum industry for well-drilling mud treatment agents, synthetic detergents, organic auxiliary detergents, textile printing and dyeing sizing agents, water-soluble gelled thickening agents for daily chemical products, pharmaceutical industry for thickening and emulsifying agents, food industry for thickening agents, ceramic industry for adhesives, industrial pastes, paper industry for sizing agents, etc. [4] It is also used as a flocculant in water treatment, mainly for wastewater sludge treatment, which can increase the solid content of the filter cake.
Sodium carboxymethyl cellulose is also a type of thickening agent. Due to its own excellent functional properties, it has been widely applied in the food industry, and to a certain extent, it has promoted the rapid and healthy development of the food industry.
